This episode proved to a model of seeing the importance of seeing the challenges through a different prism. Do we need to improve trust? Yes, but it is the police who mistrust the community more than the public’s mistrust of the police. What about recruiting? Perhaps Police Departments would be better off recruiting Sociology students and putting them through the Academy. Sid Martinez is a treasure trove of knowledge on steps forward and the need to find agreement on one issue, move the needle and then move onto the next issue.
