A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store on your device. Related technologies — local storage, pixels, web beacons, software development kits and device fingerprinting — do similar jobs. This policy explains which of them are in play when you visit cloudcastmedia.us. It forms part of our Privacy Policy.
Cloudcast uses no advertising or analytics cookies on this website. As of the effective date above, this site uses no analytics, advertising, retargeting, social media, pixel, session-replay, heat-mapping or fingerprinting technology, and it builds no profile of you. We set no cookies to track you, and we do not use cookies to follow you onto any other website.
The cookies that may be set while you are here are strictly necessary ones — the kind a site cannot work or stay secure without. They come from the company that hosts the site and protects our forms from spam, and from the company that supplies the local feeds embedded on our city pages. Both are described below.
Cookies set by Cloudcast
We set no cookies for advertising, analytics or measurement. There are no accounts to log into and no preferences to remember. The city and podcast search built into the site runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing — when you leave a page, it forgets what you searched for.
Our contact form and newsletter signup are protected against automated abuse. That protection may set a strictly necessary cookie or hold a short-lived token in your browser for as long as it takes to tell a person from a bot. It exists to stop spam reaching us, it is not used for advertising, and it does not follow you to other websites.
Because no non-essential cookies are set on this site or on our behalf, we do not show a cookie consent banner. If that ever changes — if we add analytics, or any cookie that is not strictly necessary — we will put a consent mechanism in place and update this policy before the change takes effect.
Cookies set by our hosting provider
This website is delivered by Cloudflare, Inc., which also protects it from automated abuse and attack. Depending on
the protections in force, Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies on your device to distinguish human visitors
from bots and to remember that a security check has already been passed — typically named
__cf_bm and cf_clearance. These are security cookies. They are not used for advertising,
they do not track you across other websites, and Cloudflare acts as our service provider in setting them, meaning
it is contractually restricted to using the information to deliver and protect this site.
These cookies are strictly necessary. Blocking them may prevent the site from loading. You can read Cloudflare’s explanation of them in its own cookie documentation.
Cookies set by embedded feeds
Our city pages embed local news, weather, sports and podcast feeds supplied by myneighborhood.media. An embed is a window onto another company’s website shown inside ours. When one loads, your browser connects directly to that company, which can set its own cookies and which receives your IP address, your browser and device details, and the address of the Cloudcast page you are viewing.
We limit this as far as we can while still showing you the feeds: a city page loads only one feed when it opens, and creates the others only if you open that tab. Once a frame has loaded, though, the connection is between you and that company, and its cookies are governed by its policies, not ours. We do not control them and cannot set, read or delete them.
The newsletter: tracking in email, not on the site
If you subscribe to our newsletter, the messages we send are not web pages and do not use cookies. They do contain an invisible image, often called a tracking pixel, and links routed through our email provider. Together these tell us whether a message reached you, whether you opened it, and which stories you clicked. We use that to judge which stories were worth sending and to stop mailing addresses that have gone dead. We do not use it to profile you or to target advertising.
Most email programs let you turn this off by blocking remote images, and many now do so by default. Doing that costs you nothing but the newsletter’s pictures. You can also leave the list entirely, using the unsubscribe link in any message. See the newsletter section of our Privacy Policy.
Links to other platforms
Buttons and links to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Spreaker, LinkedIn and X are ordinary links, not embeds and not social plugins. No code, script or pixel loads from those companies on our pages, and they set no cookies through us. They learn nothing about your visit unless you click through, at which point you are on their site and their cookie policy applies.
How to control cookies
You can see, block and delete cookies in your browser settings. Every major browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge and the rest — has a privacy or site-data section that lets you block third-party cookies, clear what is already stored, or refuse cookies from a particular site. Your browser’s help pages explain where.
Blocking cookies costs you nothing on this site, because we use none for advertising or analytics. Blocking the strictly necessary ones described above may prevent the site from loading or stop our forms from accepting your submission, and blocking third-party cookies may stop the embedded city feeds from working properly. The rest of the site will be unaffected.
To stop the embedded feeds from loading at all, you can use your browser’s content-blocking settings or a tracker-blocking extension. You can also simply not open the feed tabs on a city page.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not track you over time or across third-party websites, so a “Do Not Track” signal changes nothing about how this site behaves — tracking is already off for everyone. We recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information, and since we neither sell nor share, you are already treated as opted out. Both are explained more fully in the Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
If we begin using cookies or similar technologies beyond the strictly necessary ones described above — for example if we add analytics — we will update this policy, change the “Last updated” date above, and put the appropriate consent and opt-out controls in place before the change takes effect. We review this policy at least once every 12 months.
